Wilko Johnson comes to Media Studio

It's not every day that we get to photograph a rock legend in Media Studio, but last week both Jac and Mel did just that. Wilko Johnson, who has played in such iconic bands as Dr Feelgood, The Blockheads and his own Wilko Johnson Band, was at Addenbrooke's to celebrate his dramatic recovery from pancreatic cancer following radical, pioneering surgery at the hospital.

First, Jaclyn Swindell photographed Wilko in the operating theatre with his surgeon, Emmanuel Huguet, and featuring his famous black and red Fender Telecaster. "We had to work quite quickly", Jac said, "but he was so helpful and understood exactly what we wanted him to do, so I was really pleased with the result." One of these photographs appeared in Cambridge News on the 19th February.

Following Jac's session it was Melanie Yeneralski's turn, so she took Wilko to Media Studio's photographic studio for some moody portraits. Mel said: "he was great fun to work with - really natural in front of the camera. I thought these two worked well as a pair in black and white".

To thank the hospital for the fantastic care he received, Wilko is playing a benefit gig for Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT) at the Cambridge Junction on March 6. Tickets are already sold out, but the band goes on to tour around the country with concerts in Manchester, Glasgow, London and Shepherd's Bush during March and April and further dates through the rest of 2015.
